Turn Up the A/C!

Author: Winter  |  Category: 100 Things, hotties, memes

I haven’t done much about adding to my 100 Things so I thought I’d drop a few on here today since I was rudely awakened forty minutes before my alarm goes off. Since normally I post hotness and hotties on a humpday, these items are all related to heat, hotties… you get the picture.

  1. I haven’t had sunstroke, but I have had sun poisoning. If I’m in the sun too much now, I get really sick later. Chills, fever, shakes, nausea. It’s awful.
  2. I still have a nostalgic kinda thing for my ex, the hottie named Paul. It’s fueled some dreams, some fantasies, and few writing projects. Hot men make good muses.
  3. I get really homesick when it’s hot here. I mean, 68 degrees and overcast is the perfect weather to me. It’s what my body is used to after living 30 years in that climate. When I’m really overheated and miserable in my hot, swampy house, I just wanna lay down (in front of the fan, of course) and sob because I miss home so much.
  4. When I look at some of the old photos of me, from my 20’s and a few from my 30’s, I think, my God. I was pretty and never knew it. How did I never know it?
  5. Me and another blogger (male) have this torrid fantasy about sharing Kelly Monaco… and/or Marcus Schenkenberg. Rawr.
  6. I am addicted to hot wings. It is probably my most favorite food on the planet. Whenever I go to a new restaurant and I see hot wings on the menu, I have to try them. I’m not sure whose wings are my favorites these days because my favorite place, Big Red Wings on Santa Monica Blvd in West LA, is gone now. Hooters falls in the middle for me. Their wings are good, but not great. Not a fan of Wingnuts (the wings or the prices) either. El Toritos’ hot wings are actually pretty good. Same for Islands and Marie Callender’s. I just can’t pick a fave place anymore. I just keep trying wings from everywhere and some day I’ll find a replacement for Big Red Wings, I guess.
  7. I would totally watch soccer just to get my eyeballs all over that Brazilian soccer team. I think I need to move to Brazil. They have the hottest men, I swear. The models… omg. Rafael Lazzini, Andre Coelho, the Verga brothers and more. I would love to retire to Brazil and sit and watch the hotties all day long while twatting to everyone how happy I am with the scenery. Oh, yeah. Now, that is a fantasy!
  8. I don’t usually watch TV, but I’ve totally been watching In Plain Sight strictly to get a glimpse of the hottie on there, Christian de la Fuente.
  9. Hot tubs are one of my favorite things in the world. However, since there isn’t one where I live and I look like Jabba the Hut in a bathing suit anyway, I never get to indulge. If I ever get my own house, it would absolutely need a hot tub so I could sit in it naked and enjoy the heat without being self conscious.
  10. Another of my fantasy-wish list items, is to cruise on a private yacht and go swimming someplace where the water is warm and perfectly clear (and shark free). I’m not quite sure why the warm water is so attractive since usually I have a huge fear of water and swimming.

So that’s it for me for today. Here’s a couple of eye candy morsels for you before I go.

Brandon Boyd of Incubus. This is my favorite photo of him, taken at a Surfrider Foundation event.

This is Christina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil. Sultry voice, sulty woman. Now, you’re all gonna want to go listen to her sing, right?

Hope your Humpday is filled with hotties, but not hot weather. Ugh.

Another Installment

Not feeling the Sunday Silence thing today. Translated: I don’t have a photo. Junior wouldn’t hold still when we were playing stick up so everything was blurry. I figured it must be a good time to give you some more bits of the 100 Things. Since there are 32 items there now, I’ll give you 8 to bring me to 40. After this, I’ll try to stick to 10 items at a time.

33. I don’t like to watch TV shows. You know, regular stuff that’s on every week. I just can’t get into it. I tend to watch CNN, TVG, and the Weather Channel with some occasional History Channel, Military Channel, Discovery, and National Geographic thrown in. I also watch ESPN and Fuse on occasion. No regular drama or comedy shows.

34. When it comes to reading, I go in cycles. Sometimes I read and read and read. Other times, I don’t pick up a book for months. I read romances and paranormals mostly, and sometimes biographies. I really love the whole vampire genre. It’s my favorite thing to read now.

35. Thanks to my friend Jen and a contest at Zanctuary, I have every one of JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood books signed by the author. One even has a Happy Birthday message in it to me from the Warden. They are really among my prized possessions now.

36. I got to see non-military owned photos of the B2 Stealth bomber before anyone else. My daughter’s adopted Dad got the opportunity to go to Whiteman AFB in Missouri to be the first civilian allowed to take air to air photos of the B2. He flew in an F16 to shoot the B2. It was a really big thing for him, a really important assignment. However, when he finally got the word that it was go, he already had a trip to Florida to see his Grandma scheduled. So he did the gig at Whiteman, got home to CA, took his film to the lab in Hollywood, and literally got on a plane the next morning to FL. He had me pick up his film at A&I lab because he was worried about the shots. The sun wasn’t very cooperative that day. So there I was standing in the lab, loupe in my eye, looking at the images on the light table while the phone was up to my ear, telling him that the images were fantastic. And they were. He made the cover of Aviation Week with those photos. And that was how I got to see the first air to air photos of the B2 before anyone else.

37. When it comes to music, I’m a metal head. I like loud stuff. That’s my first preference always. However, I do listen to lots of other stuff. Sometimes it’s all about how well crafted the song is. So, even though Metallica is my preference, I can still appreciate one of those new Backstreet Boys songs. They don’t sound like the same old boy band they used to. The songs on this latest CD are well crafted, and they don’t overdo it on the harmony thing. Defo not a boy band sound anymore. Still, James Hetfield rules! (Yeah, I like that pissy little Lars too!)

38. One of the things that has saddened me most in life is that when I got asthma, it really messed with my singing voice. I’d been an avid singer before that. I’d gone to Lyceum summer camp in Carmel, which is audition only. The camp was taught by the principles from the Carmel Bach Festival. I was so proud that I was chosen to go out of all the teens in the state who auditioned for this. Years later, when I was diagnosed, I was really upset. Especially when the coughing and bouts of pneumonia started and my voice just got more ragged and wrecked.

39. I love background noise from the TV. I almost always have TVG on in the background no matter what I’m doing. Even if I’m listening to music, the TV is on, just with the sound down.

40. The computer that I use now was built in September 2007. I built it myself in a weekend. I’d been a little freaked out to do it since I hadn’t actually built one on my own for more than 10 years. I mean, I’ve had more than one computer in that time, but building them was Rott’s thing so I let him. When I was forced to do it myself again, I was scared I couldn’t do it. I took it easy though and did it in stages. I didn’t let it freak me out and eventually on Sunday afternoon, BAM! everything worked.

Have a great Sunday!

TT the 19th - Workin’

Author: Winter  |  Category: 100 Things, Thursday Thirteen, memes

You know that 100 Things thing that everyone seems to have on their blog? I suppose I’ll do it too even though it’s not very original of me. I mean, I guess there could be someone out there curious enough to read that much stuff about me. I’ve already done some posts about odd things about me. I’ve used them to start a 100 Things page. I’ll add it to the 100 Things today by doing a Thursday Thirteen. Today’s theme is, thirteen things about me and work.

1. When I was in college I worked in an auto repair shop. Three of the customers were famous. One was the valley guy in the movie Valley Girl. Two of the other three were from the band Tool before they did Lalapalooza: Maynard James Keenan and Adam Jones.

2. My first job was making change in my dad’s barber shop.

3. After college, I worked at the Starlight Children’s Foundation. One of the things I did was help coordinate celebrity wishes.

4. I ran a coffee shop for my mom on the south end of Mercer Island, WA when I was just out of high school.

5. When we returned to CA, I tried to go to community college as an art history major. The coolest thing about that major was that it got me a job in the college art gallery, opening the skylight and counting the people who came in.

6. After I got tired of counting people in the art gallery, I tried being a hostess in a prime rib place. Meh. So not my thing. I only suffered a couple of months.

7. The Steinbeck Public Library wanted to hire me because I knew the Dewey Decimal System forward and backward, but they only had part-time positions available that later on would become full-time. I couldn’t afford to have a part-time job so I had to turn them down.

8. I ended up working for the high school district. I was 19 when they first hired me and I looked younger. People kept mistaking me for a student in my jeans and hightops and leather jacket. In fact, I got hit on by an 8th grader who was 16. He was cute, but c’mon. A 16 year old 8th grader? What a loser!

9. When I lived in Victorville, I got hired at a nursing home to do bookkeeping. I lasted only two days because their idea of bookkeeping was that I had to help dispense meds and serve breakfast. F that! I was hired to crunch numbers not help old men put their socks on! I mean, I felt bad for them and helped them, but it was definitely not what I was hired to do so I protested and quit.

10. I stuffed envelopes for the Southern California Gardener Newsletter when it was first starting out. I always remember how beautiful their artwork was.

11. After the fiasco of the nursing home, I got a job as a fast food manager. It sucked. I had a late night shift after training, and had to drive home from Barstow to Victorville at 1:30 am every day. Have you ever seen how barren it is between Barstow and Victorville? I mean it must have been more barren back in the late 80’s. It was a scary drive.

12. I have a tax preparer’s license and I’ve done taxes on my own, as well as helped out at an Enrolled Agent’s office during tax season.

13. I’ve been at the cemetery 9 years this month. Time sure flies. This is the longest I’ve ever been at a job. I love my network there. I love the structure of it, how the VPN is set up. It’s been a trial since Friday when my firewall died, but luckily all is well now. Have I mentioned how much I love my Citrix server? Well, I do. Love it to bits! I get to do all kinds of techie stuff like update events on the website, add pages to the websites, create a shopping cart for the flower shop, create a funeral blog and an intranet, on top of the other techie stuff. I don’t mind. It’s kinda fun when I know what I’m doing. If they ask me to do something I don’t know, I can usually get my outside tech to handle it.

There you have it, 13 items related to my work history that I can add to my hundred things. Don’t forget to check out Motley sometime today. She’ll be posting some HNT pics with Dave’s tiara. They turned out so nice I think Dave might enjoy them enough to forget that his tiara’s on tour. HEH. Have a great Thursday!
