Argh! The Light!

Author: Winter  |  Category: Blog Talk Radio, Lex Valentine

I’m blinded by the spotlight once more.  I’ve been on radio shows before. Shows that were hosted by my friends. I wasn’t that nervous. I love those people (Hilly, Jester, Karl, Fab, Turnbaby, Kyra) and being on their shows was easy. Awhile back I did ARe’s What’s Hot in Romance. It was a quick bit because I wasn’t the only author on. The hostess made it easy and my familiarity with how it works kept my nerves at bay.

Tonight, I’m back in the spotlight on Phoebe Jordan’s Talk About My Favorite Authors Blog Talk Radio show.  That’s a full 90 minutes of ME. Yikes! Scary stuff. Especially without Jester propping me up asking me amusing and inciteful questions. I’m also one of those dorks who can’t type and talk on the phone. (No bluetooth headset either. Had one, hated it, gave it to Rott who loves it.) That means my chatroom participation is about nil. Maybe I’ll ask Motley to show me again how to do speakerphone on this phone. (I know, I’m supposed to be techie. But I only use my phone as a hand held phone, sometimes as a camera, and to get and send email. I don’t do anything else with it.)

At any rate, I would love to have you all stop by with questions about Ride the Lightning. I’m sure someone is going to ask about the real Dave and Vahid and how much the characters are like the real men. (They aren’t alike other than a loose physical description and one or two personality quirks.) This is a Thursday night though so I’m a little worried that the audience will be small and I’ll run out of things to talk about or have a shortage of questions. I’m getting my nerves now. Tonight, I’ll prolly be fine. LOL

If you get the chance, please do come by Blog Talk Radio for Phoebe Jordan’s show. It’s on from 9 PM to 10:30 PM EST (8PM to 9:30PM CST / 6PM to 7:30PM PST.) Come and ask me any question you like! (Even about Throbbing Vampire Cock!) I’m an open book, pun intended!

Black Friday Release

Author: Winter  |  Category: Blog Talk Radio, Lex Valentine, Marcus Monday, Marcus Schenkenberg, coffee, food, hotties

Yes, Ride the Lightning came out on Black Friday. *grin* I hope you all will check it out. And for those of you who have, YES – Dave gets his own story eventually. I’m not ready to start working on the magical race the Magia yet, but when I do Dave’s story will be near the top of the list.  A Dom with magical abilities who runs a BDSM club and has a crush on Elizabeth Hurley. Sounds like a winner to me! *wink* For those of you who haven’t read any of the Tales books but want to, my publisher even put them in a bundle at a discounted price! Yay!

I’m in a rush this morning. I had Christmas tunes in my head all night and now I’m sitting here in my towel wanting something pumpkiny or pepperminty to eat and drink. So I may have to take myself over to Starbucks before work. I do have a $5 gift card I got for attending a Citrix webinar…

I’ve been buying all sorts of odd ball things at New Egg all week too. An inverter, gaming headphones, a DVD drive… small stuff all at about half off and free shipping. Man, I love free shipping and New Egg stuff takes like 1 or 2 days to get to me. I love it! That’s all I did for Black Friday. I had to work. LOL

For those of you looking for opportunities to pelt me with questions, I’ll be on Phoebe Jordan’s Blog Talk Radio show on Thursday December 3 from 9 pm to 10:30 pm EST.

Okay, a quick Marcus and I’m speeding out of here to get me some pumpkin bread and peppermint mocha.

I don’t remember if I’ve use this one before but I like the pensive pose. Okay, I like the nicely defined package too, but that a girly thing. LOL You all have yourselves a great Monday!

Bullet Rider

Author: Winter  |  Category: Blog Talk Radio, I'm Over There, Lex Valentine, Marcus Monday, Marcus Schenkenberg, Motley, writing

So I have this guest blog post at a review site today. It’s title is Six With a Bullet. The reason for the title is that Fire Season is now #6 on All Romance eBook’s Top Ten List. This sort of equates to being the #6 most sold book at Barnes and Noble. ARe is one of the biggest distributors (e-bookstores) on the internet.

Because of riding this bullet up the bottom half of the top ten, I’ve been invited to be on ARe’s Blog Talk Radio show What’s Hot in Romance. It’s been awhile since I did any radio, but I’m sure I’ll remember how it works. I’ll prolly get a tad nervous because, after all, this isn’t Jester or Karl both of whom I’ve met and love. The show is on at 9:30 EST tonight.

I finished two novellas over the weekend thanks to the Word Wars ladies who kept cracking the whip. One is due tomorrow and I need to tweak on it some tonight. It’s not as polished as I would like it to be and it’s not going to get a crit either before it goes to the editor. I’m bummed. So many things have taken up my time and I’ve had some issues with this story. I think I need to break up my M/M writing sprees a bit. Doing a bunch of them in a row is very tough. It’s not an easy genre to write in the first place. You’re stuck saying he he him him his his name name name over and over again until you can’t figure out yourself whose arm, leg, lip, or dick you meant. I’ll be writing some good old fashioned BDSM when this over. It will be a welcome relief!

So here’s the part of Monday everyone but the straight men like. It’s that Marcus part. Here’s one of my all time favorite Marcus images. I just need this today. He can do my laundry anytime.

If you get a chance stop by Socially Dead. I bought Motley a tablet with my royalties and she’s put up some awesome new artwork. Hope you all have a spectacular Monday!

Floating My Boat

Author: Winter  |  Category: Blog Talk Radio, Marcus Monday, Marcus Schenkenberg, The Bar Story, hotties, pimping, vampires, writing

It felt like a long weekend. Probably because I spent so much of it writing. Next weekend will be a true long weekend since I spent some of my much horded vacation hours and took Friday and Monday off. I wasn’t sure if I would need recovery time since it’s Dave Diego next weekend. When it comes to bloggers, I’ve only met Hilly and Karl thus far, so Motley and I are truly excited about this event. Not that Hilly and Karl aren’t the pinnacle of bloggers, but you know what I mean.

I went to Blog Talk Radio yesterday to set a reminder for Turnbaby’s anniversary show, even though I knew I wasn’t going to get to listen to the whole thing. I had a Bar writer’s meeting online that I knew would pull me away at some point. However, when I went to set the reminder, I noticed a show that was on called The Mortal Vampire. Me being me, I had to check it out.

The Mortal Vampire seemed really cool and his chatroom was hopping. His guest was Bret Jordan who is an author and artist. They were talking about writing and someone in the chat asked how I’d found the show. So I told them about The Bar and that I write vampires. Bret instantly offered to put a link to The Bar on his links page. Very, very cool. I really enjoyed the show and will be listening again in the future. Many thanks to The Mortal Vampire and Bret Jordan for the plug.

Well, it is Monday, and I do have a Marcus for you. First, I have to say that I am just totally in lust with Christian de la Fuente from In Plain Sight. This guy really pushes my buttons which doesn’t happen very often with celebs. I think I totally called it last Monday when I said he was headed for Marcus status. Not that he would ever take Marcus’ place. No man could do that. I’m more than in lust with Marcus. If I ever met him in person, I would be a babbling fool because he reduces me to complete mush. Really, both these guys more than float my boat!

Last week there was a call for a shirtless Marcus so I’ve got one of those for you today. He’s young here, not that he’s old now, but 39 is old for a model. I guess it’s part of his supermodel status that he still looks good and is still working. Not a lot of guys look as good as he does at 39. He’s certainly inspiration for me when I’m writing hot scenes. My muse doesn’t really help me with those. He just tosses a few Marcus photos at me and heads off to get drunk. He knows the Marcus pictures will invoke the hottest of sex scenes.

I want to call out my thanks to Jen from Redneck Romance Writer and Susan from West of Mars for giving my Zanctuary writing contest entry a lookover yesterday. I appreciated the time you ladies took to read the piece and give me your opinions. The rest of you will get to read Silver Lining after the contest is over. The inspiration came from my past (the dude from yesterday), from Marcus and Christian, from a Lady Antebellum song, and from stuff that happens to people online. It’s an emotional piece from the get go, and yes, there is a sex scene! YAY!

Hope you all have a great Monday with whoever floats your boat!

Pretty Pretty Bitches!

Author: Winter  |  Category: Blog Talk Radio, friends

Saturday was the best day ever! Spending the day with Snackiepoo was awesome! Or maybe I should say amazing. Yanno, just in case we need a synonym so awesome isn’t said too much. HEH. ;) Sorry. Inside joke there.  I received my prize of lunch with Hilly at the always yummy Claim Jumper. Then we stopped in at Avenue quickly because they were having a $10 sale. Four shirts and $32 later, we headed to Hilly’s nail salon. Holy crap does that place pamper you and fuss over you! Most places are just in a hurry to get you out! I now have… pink toes. Not my usual red or purple… they are distinctly pink now.

After the mani/pedi pampering… Hilly broke out the tiara for a ride through her neighborhood Starbucks. So while Dave was enjoying Daveattle, his tiara was having fun too. At the moment, the tiara is resting comfortably with Marcus and Alaric on my dresser. I believe you will see it again on Thursday at Socially Dead when Motley takes the tiara for a Half-Naked Thursday spin.

That’s it for me today. Don’t forget to listen to Snackie Radio today. It’s another episode of the Answer Bitches. Hop on over to Hilly’s site for details. Also, many many good wishes to Marty Mankins who got married yesterday in Lake Tahoe! A big MUAH! for you and your new wife, Marty! Everyone have a great Sunday and I’ll see you at the radio shows!

The Vampire Show

Author: Winter  |  Category: Blog Talk Radio, The Bar Story, pimping, vampires

At dinner tonight, Motley and I were talking about the blogger radio shows. I told her that I’d been joking in Fab’s chatroom about doing a Vampire Show. She actually thought it was a good idea. She said she’d be on it. Well, she also said she’d be on Fab’s show. Should I tell him? LOL

Personally, I don’t think I could do a weekly show. I mean, wouldn’t I run out of things to talk about? I could go the route of guest hosts and guests who write vampire fiction… but I’m still skeptical. Eventually, there’s nothing left to discuss once we’ve gone through all the cemetery stuff and all the vampire stuff. Wouldn’t me talking about writing and characters be totally boring? I think I’m boring. I figure I must be, cause it’s not like people are knocking down my door to talk to me.

So, I dunno. People seem interested in the cemetery and vampire stuff. Jason X over at the User Pool has used my vampire info as a yardstick against which he’s measured his lover Blair, whom he feels is a bloodsucking vampire. Personally, I think she’s more of the soulsucking type, which makes her a demon from Atersilex at the Bar. I guess I’m sorta on shaky ground cause a lot of people aren’t into vamps. Look at my comments. You’ll see a few of those folks.

The other thing is that there are a lot of radio shows already. Aren’t there just too many for people to keep up with now? Who would listen to me babble when they don’t have time for all the more established blogger shows? Motley suggested I have a basic poll and ask readers to vote. You don’t have to comment, but a vote is appreciated. Should I do a show or not? Cast your vote in the sidebar on the right. If the survey says… YES, then I’ll be back with a poll that is more specific about things like when and where and how long and how often. (Not often. As in, not weekly. No. Effing. Way.)

I suppose I should thank Dragon (did I link to the right person?) for being so enthusiastic about this idea at Fab’s chatroom last week. If no one votes or the votes are negative, I’m blaming this post and poll all on her. Heh heh.

One last thing before I go… Motley still hasn’t downloaded the pic of me at the picnic. Here’s a pic taken by one of the embalmers, Christina. In front of me is my beloved giraffe purse. This was pretty much my set company smile. The LOL caption on this pic at the office is: I may be smiling now, but touch the giraffe and you die!

OH! I almost forgot my big Pimpin Friday! It’s Freaky Frakkin’ Friday at Secondhand Tryptophan. Stop by and YOU could win a prize!

Feed Me!

Author: Winter  |  Category: Blog Talk Radio, dreams, friends, pimping, rants

Yanno, I took Karl’s words to heart and I went back to my feed reader. Not just because Karl is the voice of sensibility on this issue, but because I’m really not up to clicking 60 freaking links all the time. Anyway, I’m finding that going back to the reader is annoying me. Well, really several things are annoying me. First of all, Feed Demon sucks at updating. I see a bunch of twats on Twitter with updates and I eagerly open Feed Demon. Nothing. I click on the manual refresh. Nothing. Two hours later, I see Karl’s newest post appear on Feed Demon… long after I’ve gone straight to Secondhand Tryptophan outside the reader. I check Newsgator too, which is synced with Feed Demon. Same thing. Lagging SOBs.

The other thing that gets me with using a feed reader isn’t really about the feed reader. It’s about the sites. Karl went into that stuff about feeds and RSS and feedburners. My annoyances are more specific. The big one is comments. Dave2 and Avitable do comments perfectly. Although, Avitable’s “Subscribe to the comments of this muthafucka” isn’t how everyone should offer this service, it IS the right thing to do. Dave2 has a link on his left sidebar for a comments feed. What’s so special about Dave and Adam, you ask (other than the obvious)? Their links are not comments for a specific post. It’s comments for ALL posts. ME LIKEY. This is so freaking easy a blog baby like me can do it!

Really the last thing that annoys me are all the authors out there who want you to READ them, but don’t supply you with a feed link. This is bad marketing. Some of us read A LOT OF BLOGS. A feed reader is a must when you get over a certain number. Everyone should offer a feed link. But most especially, authors should! I can’t believe how many author blogs and sites I’ve seen in the past 5 months who do not have feed or comment links. I WANT TO READ WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY! HELP ME HERE! I also wanna shoot off emails to all of them, telling them I’ll fix it for them! I would read many more author blogs, and read more frequently, if they all had links to their feeds and comments. It’s so sad that they are missing out on this awesome marketing tool. So those of you without those links, please think about putting them on your blog. I promise to read you more often if you do.

Alright, my little rant is done but the Feed Me part isn’t over with yet. You see, I listened to the New Improved Jester Show on Talk Shoe last night. I wasn’t crazy about the fancy pro app with the chat bubbles. Too busy for me. I went back to the web client and was quite happy. So happy, in fact, that I had the weirdest, most vivid dream about the show and the chat people and a couple of my friends. Here’s how it went:

Jester’s show turned into this big party in a huge mansion. Karl was giving out Secondhand Tryptophan buttons and explaining WJP. Jester was laughing a lot and UMB was making margys and threatening to run naked through the house. Everyone was telling him that wasn’t a threat at all. They wanted to see that! My friend Jen was there handing out chocolate pudding cups. Every time he got one, Dave would go back to the end of the line. (No surprise there!) He must have been worried though because he said he hoped he wasn’t allergic to chocolate pudding. He wasn’t sure he could stab himself with the epi pen…

My friend Greg, who is sorta seeing my friend Jen, showed up at the party then. He said margys were pussy drinks, to which Hilly told him, “Sweet sweet pussy…” In the kitchen, someone had set out a big pan of enchiladas which Greg liked. He told Jen to drink the margys and he’d eat the enchiladas. Dave told Greg, “No pudding for you!” and he took all the pudding cups from Jen. Greg ignored him and asked about the naked gay guy running around. That’s when I noticed UMB had decided he didn’t like his clothes anymore. Jen then told Greg that at least it wasn’t Darrie (who is 6′10″) from Zanctuary running around naked.

Howard was wondering if someone had a camera on UMB. Hellohahanarf was trying to explain to Othurme that she really did have TWO breasts. He didn’t seem to believe her because he kept asking for proof. Jester was so busy with a photo from TSMOregon that he missed UMB’s flashing. He was also praising Talk Shoe and trying to convert Karl and Hilly over to the “light side”. Someone said Mr. Drunkulous was on the phone. Someone was yelling about twats. Someone else was complaining about static and a hush fell over the room when a booming godlike voice said, “Macs are for sissies.” I thought Dave and Jester were going to have an apoplexy, but then Hilly said she found the tiara and I woke up.

I think I’ve been listening to too many Blog Talk Radio shows while talking to Jen in YIM. Have a freaky frakin Friday… TWKS!
