A Little Assistance?

Author: Winter  |  Category: Lex Valentine, Marcus Monday, Marcus Schenkenberg, hotties, writing

I don’t like to ask for things, but today I’m going to ask for a little assistance. I entered a contest yesterday. A writing contest. Flash fiction, 500 word maximum, Halloween theme. (Okay, mine’s a little naughty too.) The five entries with the most positive comments will be forwarded to the publisher of eXtasy books for judging. So, I’m gonna swallow my pride and ask you all to stop by and leave a comment on my entry. The blog is called Seven Wicked Authors and my entry is The Green Lady by Lex Valentine. I sincerely appreciate all your support. Oh, and for all the ladies and gays, the almost naked man on the header of that blog is showing off his package and he is really HOT!

I’ve got a really nice Marcus for today. I’ve definitely been in the mood for some Marcus since I spent the weekend trying to kill off a Bar character. I haven’t done it yet, but everything is in place and one or maybe two posts from now, Macaire will be taking a hike to the Afterlife. So to soothe myself, I’ve brought out this little gem:

I AM WILLIAM WALLACE! Marcus rocks the kilt way more than Mel ever did.

This week, I’ll be doing the one word answer meme that Kapgar had on his blog and I’ll be posting some hotties on Wednesday. There was someone special I was gonna post, but I’ve lost track somewhere… If you were the person I said I’d post a hottie for, remind me in comments who it was. I’m pulling a blank at the moment for some reason. It’s right there on the tip of my tongue… GAH! Lost it again. Grrr.

EDIT: AH HA! I promised Gooster more Tracy James! Wooo hooo!

Anyway, I’m so glad that my twisted fairy tales are coming up correctly, Hilly as a Valkyrie, Vahid as a dragon, Hellohahanarf as a naked Rapunzel in a hotel window… Something cosmic was working overtime in me, I swear.

Okay, that’s enough outta me. Have a great Monday and may your garage door stay working!

I Think I Did

Author: Winter  |  Category: Lex Valentine, Marcus Monday, Marcus Schenkenberg, hotties, writing

I was definitely the Little Engine That Could this weekend. I took Friday off and started serious work on the Prince & Pea. That little bit I posted for you was all I had… but by 11 pm last night, I had over 21K words. It was a rough weekend with heat, distractions, and a host of other things. However, I just kept telling myself “I think I can, I think I can” and sure enough… I did!

The story needs to be edited. I just rushed and put it all down because sometimes that’s what you have to do to finish something. In this instance, it was what was working for me. This is the longest thing I’ve written in quite awhile. Bar posts are often 3K or less. Some of my other stories have been around 5-8K. But I do have about 20 chapters (75K words) in a Regency romance that I haven’t finished so I can write longer stories. I really should finish the Regency. 75K words is a lot.

So the Prince & the Pea will go to beta readers now and I will get back to the Bar. I have a Girl’s Night Out with fighting and naked dragon rides to write. I’m a little tired this morning, but I feel good. Also, as soon as I finished, my brain was whirring with ideas for the sequel to the Prince. Max’s best friend Alexa needs her story told, but I’m not sure whether I should try to make it fit a fairytale or not.

Before I give you a Marcus for this Monday, I did want to let you know that I heard back from singer/songwriter Dan Wilson. His song Breathless in part inspired Runaway Train which was the introduction of two new characters to the Bar. It also is a great stand alone erotic story. Dan said that he doesn’t own the copyright to Breathless, Sony does. He wasn’t sure, but he thought it was okay to use the song for a trailer since I’m not selling the song or anything else with it. I went ahead and polished up the trailer. Here it is.

I will be catching up with all your blogs this week. It’s gonna be this way for awhile as I try to get myself established as Lex Valentine. I’ll be reading you in my feedreader and coming by to make at least one or two comments a week on your blogs. I love you all so I can’t just click read and move on without at least one comment from me.

And now for a Marcus to finish out this post.

Hey, baby. Nice … erm… wheels. Yeah, wheels. HEH

FYI - If you tried to see the vids in the other posts and couldn’t try again. I updated them. Also you can CLICK HERE to see them all on You Tube.

Have a great Monday everyone!

So Impressed

Remember that I said Jester had found me the most perfect song ever for one of my Lex Valentine videos? Well, he did. I liked the song so much that I went and listened to the whole album and then downloaded it from Rhapsody. This band is the shit. I went to their website looking for contact info and lo and behold their singer/songwriter’s email addy was there. So I emailed him and asked for permission to use ‘Nikki’ in my video. I think it was less than an hour later he got back to me and said… YES! How freaking cool is this guy?

So, now that I have Adam Cohen’s permission, here is my Pink Chair Diaries Trilogy video.

That’s two bands now that have given me permission to use their music. Since Friday is a promo day on some of the Yahoo loops I belong to, I’ll be touting the videos! I want to do all I can to get my name out there which in turn, with the videos, gets the band names out there too. It’s just a scratching back thing. I’m still waiting to hear back from singer/songwriter Dan Wilson. I want to use his song Breathless for Runaway Train. I tried it in my test video and it’s awesome, but I prefer to have permission. I just feel better if I do.

Although, the Silver Queen vid I made that I like so much, uses Evanescence, and I doubt any email I sent to any contact for them would get me permission to use the song. So I’m gonna make the video private. I really made it for Shiny Bitch anyway. I’ll think of another song that I can get permission for and then post the official Silver Queen vid.

One more thing before I go. PseudoSJ sent me a twat about a contest where they are giving away a Dooney giraffe purse. Now, I know I already have one, but this is the BIG one! The one I originally tried to get, but didn’t have the money for. So I’m entering the contest as many times as I can in the hope that maybe, just maybe, luck will shine on me this year and give me a birthday gift of winning this purse. It’s a longshot, but I have to try. The contest is at HandbagPlanet.com.

I’m home today working on my WIPs, trying to finish this Valentine story. It’s not going well. Ugh. Anyway, if anyone would like to be my beta reader, I could use a couple of people. You need a sharp eye to catch my left out words and commas, and you gotta be able to tell me if something does flow well or make sense to you. If you’re interested send me an email at winter at winterheart dot com.

BTW, this is my 200th post. Go me! Happy Friday!

Sharing

Author: Winter  |  Category: writing

I have this urge to share. No, not the sore throat that I’m starting to come down with (damned Twitter plague!), but something else! Remember my Princess and the Pea story? I thought about twisting that into a short story because it always makes people laugh. Then someone said something that gave me the idea to take some of my favorite Bar characters and tweak them to use in other vehicles. Somehow, when I was napping over the weekend, these two ideas got mashed together, giving me Max LeFevre (Max Fever) the underwear model and his best friend, the ex-girlfriend of a rock star, Alexa Harte.

Max is long haired and golden, a fun guy with a laid back attitude. Alexa is petite, big breasted, and sharper than a stiletto. They’re an amusing pair even though they aren’t having sex. The story is all about Max’s search for a mattress. He needs a new mattress because it seems he’s inherited a title and some huge golden wings that he has to keep hidden. Between the royalty factor kicking in and the hidden wings, Max is having trouble with his bed.

So the story opens with Max and Alexa searching for a mattress…

The mattress looked deep and thick and soft. Even the pillow top part looked really thick and poofy. Max LeFevre eyed it skeptically which ignited a mini firestorm in his companion.

“Oh, c’mon, Max. For the love of…” Max’s best friend Alexa Harte broke off on a frustrated sigh. “We’ve been looking at mattresses all day. My feet hurt. Can’t you just pick one and be done with it? Why the hell does it have to be just right?”

One blonde brow arched up at Alexa. “Do I look like Goldilocks to you?” he murmured, carefully lying on the mattress.

Alexa sat down on the next mattress over and pulled off her high heel, rubbing her tiny foot vigorously. “No, you’re the fucking Princess and the Pea,” she grumbled.

Max chuckled. “That is more true than you know.”

He wriggled around on the mattress, trying to get comfortable. The mattress was great as long as he was lying on his side. It was lying on his back that was the problem. Every mattress he tried wasn’t good enough. They’d been to three stores already. This one was the fourth. He’d tried every mattress in each of the stores, searching for the one mattress that would let him lie on his back.

“That is a wonderful mattress, sir!” a salesman exclaimed enthusiastically as he walked up to them.

Frowning fiercely, Alexa slammed her high heel on and stood up. She straightened her spine, bringing herself up to her full five foot one height. “You can leave. We don’t need a salesman. He’s just gonna try every mattress in this store and if he finds one that he wants, we’ll come find you so you can have the sale.” She stared defiantly at the salesman, almost daring him to try his sales pitch on them.

Wisely backing down, the salesman threw up his hands. “Sure, lady. No need to go all pitbull on me. I’m Charlie. If he wants to buy a mattress, I’ll be over there.” He gestured vaguely to another part of the store and then took off in that direction.

Max rolled onto his side feeling much more comfortable the moment he did. He propped his head up with one hand, his long blonde hair flowing over his shoulder and down onto the mattress. “Pitbull. Hmmmn. You know, that’s a pretty good nickname for you, Alexa.” His turquoise eyes gleamed up at her mischievously.

She sat back down on the mattress and pulled off her shoe again. “You ever call me that and I’ll deck you, pretty boy,” she muttered.

There’s some other stuff that happens in the mattress store, but the two of them end up at a fancy restaurant for lunch, one of their usual hangouts. Their usual waiter, Marty, seems to think he can help Max find a mattress that would suit him…

Marty started scribbling on a pad. “What did you buy?”

Alexa made a rude noise. “Nothing. The Prince here couldn’t find a mattress to suit him.”

Marty looked at Max in surprise. “You were shopping for a mattress? Aren’t they all kinda the same?”

Max sighed. No one understood his dilemma. “No. They aren’t all the same. I need something softer than the usual mattress. I just can’t seem to find anything that will work.”

Marty looked thoughtful for a moment then he said, “Lemme think about that while I turn in your order.”

The expression on Alexa’s face was priceless. Max’s lips quirked up. When Marty was out of earshot they both started laughing. “That would be the weirdest thing ever, Maxie. Our waiter solving your sleep issue,” Alexa wheezed, as she tried to stop laughing.

Taking a deep breath to push the laughter down, Max shook his head and reached for his drink. “I don’t care who solves it as long as it gets solved.”

“I just don’t get why it’s so important.” Alexa rubbed her finger around the rim of the glass.

Max wasn’t about to explain it to her in a public place so he made light of the situation. “It’s important because I never get to be on the bottom.”

Alexa choked on her drink. “Max, you’re not even seeing anyone.”

He gave her an arch look. “If I meet someone today, I don’t get to be on the bottom.”

She rolled her eyes and groaned. “You’re incorrigible,” she muttered.

Since I’m having trouble getting around to all your blogs to comment (I am reading you in my feedreader, I promise!) and I’ve been having trouble posting my usual banter here, I just thought I share what’s keeping me from you.

Have an awesome Tuesday and don’t let the Twitter plague get ya!

Round Two

Author: Winter  |  Category: Lex Valentine, Marcus Monday, Marcus Schenkenberg, hotties, writing

So, I didn’t get a post up on Sunday. I’m afraid I’m gonna be a little erratic with the posting for a bit here. I’m seriously obsessed with this writing thing.

It’s Monday and not only do I need to post Marcus, I have some other media things to share. I think I’ll start with Marcus because I need to start with something yummy and sexy.

Whew! He’s hot. I’m ready to move on now.

Last time I posted I told you about learning to use Windows Movie Maker. I made a couple of videos while I was trying to figure out the software. One of them was for my new Pink Chair Diaries post The Wiz & the Chair.

When I was writing Wiz, I needed a name for one of the characters, so I asked Justin if I could use his. He graciously agreed. Then, when I was making the video, I needed a song and Jester came to my rescue. The song he suggested was a hot one, to complement the hot story. So here it is, the video for the Wiz & the Chair.

My last bit of media is twofold. I have a free story available for download at lexvalentine.com. I made a little video for it too. Then I used one of the stock images I bought to create a cover for the story. So here’s a link to the pdf file of the story, complete with a cover made by yours truly. Underneath it is the video. Strangely, enough, even though there are things wrong with this video, it’s my favorite.

The Silver Queen’s Death

I hope you enjoyed my second media blitz. It’s been a lot of work learning to promote myself. I still don’t have this stuff down. I wonder how any writers have time to write with all this stuff they have to do. I’m not even published yet, but just putting all the stuff in place has been a huge project. When you send in a query letter or submission, these publishers ask you to tell them what you can do to help promote yourself and your writing. So I have to have the ability to handle this media or I’ll have to pay to have it done. Luckily, I love Photoshop. Heh.

Have a great Monday!

Media Blitz

Author: Winter  |  Category: Lex Valentine, technology, writing

This weekend is my big media blitz. Well, at least until someone gives me a contract for one of my stories. Then I will be hanging out at ALL social media begging you all to buy the book and make your mothers and their friends buy the book. Heh.

First up, the always awesome Jen from Redneck Romance Writer came through for me again with great suggestions for Silver Lining, even though she’s a busier person than I am. I worked my ass off on it Friday night and just a wee bit ago… I took my balls in hand and subbed it to Amira Press. I think this time I really will bite my nails. This story had a major overhaul and went from it’s original 4900 words to a whopping 8559, but I think it’s ready now.

When I put my query letter together, I realized that this publisher wanted to know what my marketing plan was. Me? Market something? Then I realized that for once in my life I’d done something RIGHT! I mentioned the loops I belong to (Yahoo and Google groups). I mentioned how long I’ve had winterheart.com. I mentioned that my author website at lexvalentine.com was up and running. I mentioned this blog and the wonderfully supportive blogging community I belong to. I mentioned the Zanctuary board which is filled with people from JR Ward’s message board. I mentioned the Bar…. Then I brought out the big guns. I mentioned a fistful of social media networking sites from Twitter to Facebook to LinkedIn to Flickr and Brightkite and on and on… Damn.

Look what you people and a smart phone have done for me! MADE ME LOOK GOOD ON PAPER! WOO F’ING HOO! I was never so happy to be an anal geek as I was tonight.

Moving on, I’ve been learning to make trailers using Windows Movie Maker, which by the way, sucks major ass. At my office, I am the queen of Powerpoint. It’s not hard to be the queen of PPT there. I’m like the smartest person there when it comes to using software. I have this really cool PPT about email that incorporates the company’s credo essentials… it’s narrated by a staff member who emcees our big Memorial Day and Easter events. He has a great voice… and all I do to show this PPT is click on slide show. It runs all on it’s own and I just sit there. Not even a click. I love it. So making the trailer is kinda like doing a PPT presentation.

At any rate, the most I’ve ever done with anything like this are the PPT things and using Audacity to clip MP3’s for videos the president’s assistant makes. Now, I’m no dummy. I’ve been watching Ruthie make these videos off and on for a year. I decided to make myself a trailer after the Lex site was done and guess what? It wasn’t too hard and came out okay! Lady V from The Divine Madness said I could use their music (just to be all official like) and voila! Here is my masterpiece! (Don’t be too hard on me, I’m a newb at this remember?)

So, there you have it. My trailer for Lex Valentine, author. Tomorrow, I’m gonna tell you a little story about Jester, a sexy song, and how Justin let me steal his name. Then I’ll show you the other two trailers. Like I said in the title… media blitz!

I’m off to get some sleep before the big Chatroom Racers Stakes day at the sim Saturday morning. I already know I’m gonna get my ass handed to me on a platter. I even had the nerve to run a girl against the boys going long. Luckily, I think she won’t care.

Have a great weekend!

Peaceful

Author: Winter  |  Category: Better Than a Hot Blogger, Lex Valentine, Marcus Monday, Marcus Schenkenberg, writing

There’s something to be said for a routine. It’s peaceful. It was a little hectic this weekend launching LexValentine.com and all, but overall, I’m so glad it’s up. Having the site go live was so inspiring that I got several Bar posts done and started the menage story. While it’s true that I have other works in progress that need some time and energy, I have to go with whichever characters are talking to me. Today, it was the new menage trio.

At any rate, it’s back to the Monday grind here with a little Marcus and a shameless plug for the Better than a Hot Blogger calendar. Cissa Fireheart sent me a photo! Where is YOURS? I really will start stalking your Flickr accounts. I know where they are after all! Send them to winter at winterheart dot com.

So here’s a yummy Marcus for Monday. I was thinking of him a lot this weekend because I had to write about Alaric and Alexandria. Oh, and I made a Photoshop picture of them again, a baby bump photo. Maybe I’ll post it later this week. Do a Thursday Thirteen on graphics again or something. Oooh, look at Marcus! He has the nicest arms…

Please stop by and visit my new author website!

Have a simply great Monday!
