Backed In a Corner

I think stress has totally rewired me on the inside. This last year and still now, the stress in my life has conspired to change everything for me. How I write, how I deal with my day, how I sleep at night. Pretty much everything. For the foreseeable future, things are not going to change. That means I need to live with this monkey on my back. In the past, I’ve deal with mega-stress. I’ve suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder from the onset of sudden massive stress like my parents dying 6 months apart.  I’m beyond that now and I haven’t felt those odd disassociated...

Political Me

I don’t do politics. Anywhere. Those of you who know me, know this is true. I don’t like the arguments that come of talking politics nor the flame wars that come of posting a political discussion. I leave the politics to those who actually can handle the heated comments…people like Jester. Jester calls a spade a spade and is unapologetic about doing so. He can handle a political discussion on his blog, on his radio show, on Twitter, and face to face. I, on the other hand, prefer not to be embroiled in the glories of debate. Until today. See, I have questions. Questions about our...

Judge Not

I spent Saturday judging some writing contest entries. It was fun, but I have to say, the first few I read were disappointing. I guess I expected them to be better stories. I don’t know why I had that expectation but I did.  The writing was okay, the mechanics not bad, but I felt nothing when I read them. They weren’t exactly boring, but they just weren’t interesting enough to capture my interest. Of course, I could tell with a few of them that they just needed a better vocabulary, better word choices, to pump up the story and give it more oomph. Others, well, let’s just...

Gah! Earworms!

Sometimes I don’t mind earworms. I usually have one when I’m working on a manuscript (the current manuscript, Sunstroked, has a Godsmack earworm, Love-Hate-Sex-Pain) and I often get them at work when I’m concentrating. I also wake up with them. I’m not sure how that works. My unconscious just produces a song and leaves it stuck in my head. The ones I wake up with are the hardest to get rid of. When I was in the spotlight at Whipped Cream’s blog last week, I talked about the soundtrack to the books I wrote. The fact of the matter is, those songs were earworms.  They...

I Would Like to Thank…

It’s official. I am now an award winning author! Ride the Lightning placed 3rd in the erotica category of the 2010 Lories Contest put on by the From the Heart Romance Writers chapter of the Romance Writer’s of America. This is a really thrilling milestone in my career and I’m so excited that it happened with this story. I thought for sure it would have been the oh so popular Fire Season, but nope. My poor little red dragon with her abused past brought this one home. And I couldn’t be more proud of her!  I don’t have my badge for my website yet. That’s forthcoming...

Favoritism

We all have things we’re partial to.  Restaurants and food. Authors and books. Clothes and colors. The list can go on and on. Last night I asked my Yahoo group to tell me which of the sex scenes (or love scenes if you prefer) that I’ve written were the hottest and why.  Just a little informal poll. I want to see what they say and I have a reason for doing so. This week I started dismantling The Bar. The writers are all busy with other things in their lives and a couple of them went in and removed their posts because they have copyright concerns. When it became obvious that rather...

Catch and Release

That phrase is usually associated with fishing. However, it can be applied to people too. There are people whom you deliberately set out to snare and make part of your life. When the time comes that they no longer fit in that place, you release them.  And by snare, I don’t mean it in a bad way but rather like cultivate. You meet someone. You like them. So you foster the relationship whether it’s a love interest or someone you just want to be friends with. When things happen in your lives and you realize this person doesn’t belong in your part of the world anymore, you let them...

Burning Eyes

Maybe I need to sneak some of Rott’s Visine. Or maybe I need to not work so hard. I wrote yesterday. I was a tad on fire for awhile. I napped too but when I awoke from the nap I was on fire again. A whole helluva lot of words later, I went to bed. It was 1 am. I’ve done the late night writing gig before. I don’t do it as well this year as I did last year. Must be an age and stress thing. Or it could be a Daylight Savings time thing. What a crock of shit DST is anyway. I don’t have to reset the time in my car with a pen because yanno…I never turned the effing thing...

Cold Dreams

I fell asleep with my window wide open. It was a balmy 45 degrees last night.  Actually, the fan was on too. On medium. Since the demise of my comforter, I only have a thin microplush blanket on my bed. I dreamed I was cold. Huddled in a jacket, stamping my feet… cold.  I awoke pretty much frozen. I have the sniffles and a raging headache. I’ve probably bought myself a ticket to the doc. Jury’s still out though. I’ve only been up a few hours.  I’m still cold though. The cold reminded me of a writing prompt from Avoid Writer’s Hell. The prompt had to feature...

Oh, Eff Me

What a weekend. Issues with a switch on the network at my office cause problems for my co-workers which translated to problems for me at home as I tried to get on the network and tried to soothe the callers. The rain screwed up my plans to go flying down the freeway for an hour so my mechanic can check the car’s computer. My grocery order arrived quickly and early and I got my shampoo, but not my conditioner. My phone (a T-Mobile Dash) has started having charging issues. Because of the rain, I didn’t go down to the beach to watch the morons who decided to Surf the Tsunami. (We love...

Insert Irony Here

Um, yeah. I don’t do the vote begging thing very well. “Vote for meeeeee!”  I’m the type of person who will tell everyone there is a voting opportunity, but leave it at that. I’ll post it here, post it to the Yahoo groups I belong to on the appointed promo days, and pretty much leave it at that. The voting thing eats at me because it’s just not logical. Let me backtrack for a second here and tell you what’s going on. Love Romances Cafe, a book review site, announced their nominees for the Best of 2009. Fire Season has been nominated for Best Shape Shifter...

Tearing Hurry

I’m in a tearing hurry this morning because I’m very close to finishing Insolence, which puts me back on track to get done all the stuff I need to do.  A part of the scene I’m struggling with came to in the shower so I need to spit it out so I don’t forget it. So forgive me if I rush through this Monday’s inane chatter. First of all, I’m guest blogging at Cindy Jacks’ about Love. CLICK HERE to see what I had to say! Second, Fire Season’s trailer was reviewed by 1st Turning Point and received 4 parrots! That’s a great score! Third, I tore...
